About Heatherwood Nursing & Rehab - Newport, RI
Nestled in the heart of downtown Newport on Bellevue Avenue is Heatherwood Nursing and Rehabilitation. Heatherwood provides a charming setting to residents who require short-term rehabilitation, long-term or dementia care. Our staff of professionals places a priority on ensuring all residents’ needs are being met, both medical and psychosocial.
We treat every resident with respect and dignity. From the admission process to the planning of care, our residents are involved in all decisions regarding their treatment.
Heatherwood nurses are in contact with the medical director, Dr. Gutierrez regarding all changes in a resident’s status. Our physiatrist Dr. Reiser conducts weekly meetings with our nursing and therapy teams to review the place of care and the patient’s progress.
Whether it’s a short stay from a hospital recovery or longer-term care, Heatherwood is a premier facility that is JCAHO accredited and has been caring for individuals for over 20 years.
Our memory support program, BRIDGES, offers a more supportive environment for people with memory impairments. The BRIDGES therapeutic recreation program provides frequent, structured leisure activities, sensory programs, and many opportunities for one on one interaction to meet the needs of people at any stage of memory loss.
The BRIDGES staff has special training in working with people with dementia, and understands that these residents require more supervision and encouragement. A person centered assessment is done at the time of admission in order to develop a holistic plan of care that meets the needs of mind, body, and spirit.
